The normal response of 2 pumpers, an aerial and a district chief was dispatched to the report of a fire in the back yard of a 3 story detached building. On arrival, I stuck to the coattails of my captain (as a rookie should) and we went around back. I don't remember the situation in the back yard, but the fire, if there was one, was of a very minor type, possibly a tended trash fire.

At this time, another member of my truck came back to me and urgently suggested that I report to the front of the building. Well, I was new and thought that the best idea was to do what my captain told me, and so I continued under his supervision. Only later was the unfolding drama inside the building related to me.

Apparently, when we arrived on the scene with sirens and lights doin' their thing, we had unknowingly interrupted a carnal liaison which was unfolding in fiery passion in the front bedroom on the 3rd floor of the same building. The young lady was interrupted by the activity outside, and naturally looked outside to see what was going on. On seeing the fire trucks parked outside her residence, she immediately jumped to the conclusion that her house was on fire and she was in the need of immediate assistance. (Reportedly, neither individual in that room was very sober). And so, as naked as on the day of her birth, but in spectacularly well developed form (so I heard), she began yelling for help from the open window.

Within no more than 2 seconds the entire front yard full of firefighters was in the door of the building and up the stairs ready to lend aid to a needy citizen of our fair city. Apparently, it was a spectacular rescue, and proof to the doubting individual that yes, it is possible to jam about 8 firefighters into a tiny room if you really try.
